Starting care

A gentle start to childcare

Starting childcare is a big change for your baby and for you. New faces, new sounds and a new routine can take a little getting used to, and that is completely normal.

We keep YoMy Sunshine small on purpose. With 30 places across the whole centre, our educators have time to learn how each baby likes to be held and settled, and you get to know the people caring for your child.

Our aim is a calm, familiar room where your baby feels safe enough to rest, play and explore at their own pace.

Our nursery approach

How we care for babies

Every baby is different, so the nursery day is shaped around them rather than the clock.

  • A primary caregiver

Each baby has one main educator who learns their cues, comfort items and favourite ways to settle.

  • Your baby’s own routine

We ask how sleeps, feeds and settling work at home, and our approach is designed to follow that rhythm as closely as we can.

  • Rest when they need it

Babies rest when they are tired. Talk with us about how your baby settles and we will work out together what feels right.

  • Comfort and reassurance

Cuddles, a familiar voice and a favourite comforter from home all help babies feel secure somewhere new.

  • Movement and first words

Tummy time, reaching, rolling and crawling, alongside songs, books and everyday chatter that encourage early communication.

  • Learning through play

Safe, age-appropriate toys, soft books and sensory materials invite babies to touch, hold and explore.

Day to day

A typical nursery day may include

There is no rigid timetable in the nursery. Depending on your baby’s age and mood, a day may include:

  • One-on-one time and cuddles with their educator
  • Floor play with safe, age-appropriate toys
  • Rest and sleep when your baby is tired
  • Meals and bottles, following your routine
  • Sensory play with different textures
  • Stories, songs and simple rhymes
  • Time outdoors in the fresh air

At pick-up, we are always happy to talk through how your baby’s day went.

Meals from our own kitchen

Meals are prepared on site each day, and we plan around your baby’s stage of eating and your family’s needs, including halal, vegetarian and allergy-aware options. Talk with us about bottles and the foods your baby is ready for.

Growing up in the same centre

When your child is ready, usually around their second birthday, they can move from the nursery into our Toddler Program. Moving rooms within the same centre means a building they already know and educators who have watched them grow.

Staying with one centre can help children feel settled as they grow, although every child adjusts in their own way.
